The kayaks are built primarily of 1/4" plywood and canvas. The materials can normally be found or ordered from local lumber and fabric stores.  Although materials normally run around $100 exact costs depend upon the:

• cost of materials in your area
• model of kayak built (8-foot or 10-foot)
• number of kayaks built

In the spring of 2000 we worked with our local Boy Scout unit and built thirty four (34) of the 10-foot kayaks.  The per kayak cost for materials, excluding paint (the boys and leaders painted their own kayaks) was just under $83.
